Sun, Beach, and Prevention

Taking care of your skin while on vacation does not mean missing out on the experience. It means preparing it, protecting it, and helping it recover.

Vacations are often associated with rest, travel, the beach, swimming pools, and more time outdoors. However, they are also a time when the skin is more exposed to the sun, heat, sweat, chlorine, salt water, and changes in routine that can affect its health and appearance.

Taking care of your skin while on vacation does not mean missing out on the experience. It means preparing it, protecting it, and helping it recover.

The first step is using sunscreen correctly. Applying it once in the morning is not enough. To provide effective protection, it should be applied generously to all exposed areas and reapplied throughout the day, especially after swimming, sweating, or drying off with a towel.

It is also important to remember areas that are often overlooked, such as the ears, neck, décolletage, hands, tops of the feet, lips, and hairline. These areas are also exposed to ultraviolet radiation and may develop sunspots, burns, or signs of premature aging.

In addition to sunscreen, physical protection is essential. Hats, sunglasses, lightweight long-sleeved clothing, umbrellas, and seeking shade during the hours of greatest sun intensity can help reduce direct exposure.

Hydration also plays an important role. Heat, alcohol, air travel, air conditioning, and sun exposure can dehydrate the skin. Drinking water, maintaining a simple cleansing and moisturizing routine, and avoiding overly harsh products during your trip can help keep your skin comfortable and balanced.

Vacations are also not the best time to experiment with new products or undergo aggressive treatments without medical supervision. Some active ingredients can make the skin more sensitive to the sun, so it is important to follow medical guidance and adapt your routine according to your destination, the climate, and your skin type.

Sun exposure is one of the main factors associated with premature skin aging, dark spots, and loss of radiance. Prevention is therefore one of the best decisions we can make for both our appearance and our health.

Enjoying the summer and taking care of your skin can go hand in hand. Skin that is protected today will be healthier, brighter, and more balanced tomorrow.
